Process Column

Bianca Severijns work is a reflection of the world she lives in. Inspired by her surroundings and humanitarian and social issues, Severijns creates intricate, complex works of art using cotton-like paper and her signature tearing technique. Learn more in our Process column.

Studio Column

Artist Emily Van Hoff lives and creates in a condo in an old warehouse in Chicago, with a good portion of that space devoted to her studio. Her quilt-based art requires space to work, plenty of storage, and a variety of tools. Be sure to check out our Studio column to learn how she has made her space work.

Feature artist Nicole Dextras also brings a unique perspective to artmaking with the materials she uses. Combining her theater background with her strong interest in the environment, her work involves a lot of experimenting. She is seriously committed to sourcing and using botanical materials and her amazing, organic costumes help tell her stories. Ingenious!

Fiber in 3D

We asked our readers to show us their artwork that occupies space and explores dimension, and boy did they! Sculptures, vessels, installations, wearables, and a variety of three-dimensional pieces for the wall and floor. We were thrilled with the results of our Fiber in 3D call and know you will be, too. Enjoy!

Art Business

Read about Jacky Puzey in our Business column and discover how her passion for digital embroidery based on her own drawings resulted in a change of plan and grew into her current business. She is located in England but works with designers and firms around the globe.

Where do architecture and textiles meet, and where do they diverge? That’s the question Crystal Gregory sought to answer, and that became the basis for her work. In our “Working at the Intersection” feature, you’ll learn about Gregory’s unique process that combines woven textiles with building materials, creating artwork that is both hard and soft. Gregory’s colorful, patterned weavings are something to behold. Intriguing!
