TEXTILE ART GALLERY NYC ANNOUNCES SOLO EXHIBITION: HIRAETH BY JENNIFER FONS

NEW YORK, NY — Textile Art Gallery NYC is proud to present a new solo exhibition, Hiraeth, by contemporary quilt-maker and collagist Jennifer Fons with an opening May 16 from 3-5pm, 2026. The exhibition is a dedicated presentation of Fons signature series. This body of work which emphasizes the profound, untranslatable Welsh concept of hiraeth—a deep longing or homesickness tied to ancestral memory—into a vibrant, textile-based visual language.

The figures that populate the Hiraeth series embody the emotional core of the exhibition. They often appear abstracted and isolated, yet are positioned to relate to one another, expressing a sustained longing for home and a search for belonging. This visual tension mirrors the internal conflict of seeking rootedness while acknowledging distance. Through the medium of the quilt—an object historically associated with comfort, memory, and home—Fons invites viewers to engage with their own inherited memories and universal yearning for a sense of place.

Artist Bio: Jennifer Fons is a contemporary quilt-maker and collagist with a 25-year practice rooted in her childhood fascination with color, shape and line. Jennifer’s technique uses a rotary cutter to create her shapes with the fluidity of a paintbrush.

Hiraeth is on view May 5-June 27, 2026.
