The Weavers Guild of Boston Exhibition celebrating of 100 years of handweaving excellence and education is on display at the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation, Waltham, MA now through December 2022.
Founded in 1922, the Guild’s mission has always been to make fine handwoven cloth, learn from their predecessors, develop new handweaving designs, and pass on their knowledge to others through education.
The exhibition includes:
· a timeline of the people, places, and events important to the Guild;
· a 1925 roadster picnic vignette with mannequins dressed in period clothing hand woven and sewn by Guild members;
· a colorful and detailed description of the weaving process, loom parts, and description of dressing a loom is presented; and finally,
· the Guild’s premiere Ratings program, with examples of awards for Apprentice, Journeyman, and Master Weaver levels of excellence are shown and explained.
During the exhibition’s run there will be weaving demonstrations, a speaker series, and classes for children and families throughout the summer and fall. For descriptions and times and to register for programs, please visit the Museum’s website: charlesrivermuseum.org
